Getting a useful answer faster

What to tell us

None of this is required. It is just what turns a three-email exchange into one reply.

If you are asking about a payment or an interest

  • The name the interest is held in — which is often not the name you go by now, and is the single most common reason we cannot find someone.
  • Your owner number if you have had a statement, or the well or lease name and the county.
  • What changed — moved, married, someone died, the interest went into a trust.
  • Whether you want a cheque or direct deposit.

If you are reporting something on the ground

  • Where it is, in whatever terms are natural to you — ranch name, county, nearest gate.
  • When you noticed it.
  • Whether anything is at risk right now, especially livestock.
  • A number to call you back on.

There is a form for this if you would rather fill in boxes.

Two notes on security

Things worth knowing before you send anything

We will never email you asking you to change bank details. If you receive a message that appears to come from Caprock asking you to update wire or deposit instructions, do not act on it — call the number on this page and ask. Redirected-payment fraud in this industry starts with exactly that email.

Do not send a Social Security number by ordinary email. If we need a taxpayer identification number it belongs on a signed Form W-9 sent by post, or by a method we will arrange with you. Email is a postcard.

The only addresses we use are the two on this page, both ending in @caprockog.com. We do not have an accounts-payable address that we publish, and an invoice or payment instruction arriving from one should be treated as false.
